And yeah 9th august is still speculation, but seems most likely seeing release is on the 27th and early access is likely to start the week before. So if they want to start on a weekend, it has to be the 9th. It will definitely be after the 8th because that's the live letter, and yoshi said it will be after the live letter.
Did they say they want to start open beta on a weekend? If they want to avoid extreme overloading of the servers for the starting areas, they might want to consider a weekday start instead, so that people will have time to spread out. But maybe extreme stress testing is the agenda for this open beta, I don't know
Makes sense for it to be a weekend but could technically be any day between the 8th and 15th-ish. All the previous beta phases have started on a weekend (Friday evening) though.
